Curacao Drag Racing

In Curaçao, the sport started almost 33 years ago (1971). In April 2001, the Curaçao Drag Promotions N.V. (2001-2005, CDP) celebrated the 30th anniversary of the sport in Curaçao, organizing what was later deemed to be the largest dragracing event in the history of the sport in Curaçao. One of the reasons the event was such a success was the fact that CDP dedicated the race to two pioneers of the local sport:

Stanley (“Techi”) de Boer, who was the Champion of the first dragrace organized in Koral Tabak on April 30, 1971. Mr. De Boer is still actively involved in the sport, and his son is one of the promising second-generation drivers.
Hendrick (“Henny”) Leo of Aruba, who was the owner of the first car from Aruba to participate in the first dragrace in Curaçao. Mr. Leo also is actively involved in the sport, being a racecar driver plus the principal of a team that runs several racecars.

From that "First Dragrace of April 1971" the sport of dragracing has been (and still is to this day) the most popular local sport, attracting many, many people from all walks of life. One of the reasons for the sport’s popularity is that it consists of SPEED (which many people like), which makes it very EXCITING!
Since the first dragrace in Curaçao, a big "positive" rivalry developed between Aruba and Curaçao.
This rivalry is still ongoing, and is one of the reasons why we get a lot of visitors from Aruba for the races. Also, the date April 30th-May 1st has remained as the customary date for the “Big Race”. Originally the sport was organized on a racetrack located at Koral Tabak. However, in April of 1996 a new racetrack was inaugurated:
